Weezer is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, CA in 1992, currently consisting of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar), Patrick Wilson (drums), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards) and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals).
Weezer has sold 9.2 million albums in the U.S., and over 17 million records worldwide. Their catalogue has included such megahits as “Buddy Holly,” “Undone (The Sweater Song),” “Say It Ain’t So,” “El Scorcho,” “Hash Pipe,” “Island In The Sun,” “Beverly Hills,” “Pork and Beans” and more.
Weezer has won Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards and more throughout their career. In 2016, Weezer released their 10th studio album, Weezer (The White Album), a self-proclaimed beach album that debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Rock/Alternative chart, and top 5 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band then embarked on a massive, two-month summer tour playing to half a million people across the U.S. Their eleventh album, Pacific Daydream, will be released in October 2017. The album’s first single, “Feels Like Summer,” has topped the Alternative chart, and is the band’s biggest song in a decade.
The Spazmatics were born in the spring of 1983, when physics professor Kevin Stigwood of Alta Dena High in Thousand Oaks, California, lost a debate over String Theory to an upstart pupil in front of the entire student body and faculty. As agreed to by both parties, the loser would have to do anything that the winner demanded, and the victorious prodigy demanded that Mr. Stigwood perform “She Blinded Me With Science” by Thomas Dolby during half-time at an upcoming state basketball championship game. Having no musical background and desperate to not go down in total humiliation, Professor Stigwood formed The Spazmatics. When The Spazmatics took center court that evening, members of the hip elite began heckling them with jibes of “geek” and “nerd,” while everyone else howled with laughter. But once they broke into the opening salvo of “Science,” the nonbelievers were stunned by the group’s authenticity of production, world-class musicianship, and tight choreography. When it was all over, the crowd rose in a standing ovation, and The Spazmatics were born.
